2023: Sustaining Impact and Coast-to-Coast Expansion
The year 2023 was characterized by the successful sustainment of IYC's service model and organizational growth. With 72 active members contributing 2,293 service hours and earning 25 President’s Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA), IYC maintained its commitment to core community needs.

Our volunteers continued cherished traditions, returning to senior centers for in-person performances, games, and companionship, alongside vigorous efforts in trail and beach cleanups. The quality, depth, and recognition of IYC’s programs reached new heights, proving the strength of our dedicated membership.
Expanding Humanitarian Drives for Families in Need
IYC significantly broadened its focus on direct humanitarian aid in 2023. Volunteers successfully organized a major Book Drive dedicated to underserved school children, helping to promote literacy and provide essential resources. Simultaneously, we initiated a comprehensive Food and Clothes Drive specifically aimed at supporting moms in need. These combined drives demonstrated IYC's commitment to supporting vulnerable families and children with tangible resources beyond performance and environmental work.
Award-Winning Excellence: Reading Partners Online Tutoring Program
IYC formalized a meaningful partnership with Reading Partners NYC, launching a specialized online tutoring program. Seven dedicated IYC tutors provided weekly online tutoring to underserved elementary school children in New York City in school year 2022-23, fostering critical literacy skills remotely. This exceptional volunteer service was officially recognized with the prestigious New York City Mayor's Service Award for 2022-23, an achievement that honors IYC’s profound impact on the youth of NYC.
New Horizons: Launching California and an Expanded Taiwan Branch
2023 marked an exciting expansion year with the official opening of the California branch and the establishment of a new, expanded chapter in Taiwan. These new teams quickly mobilized, engaging in locally relevant and exciting activities that leveraged the spirit of their unique communities. This strategic coast-to-coast and international growth not only broadened our service area but also injected new energy and fresh ideas into the IYC community, establishing a robust platform for future exponential growth.
2023 was a year of consolidation and strategic planting. Despite a "minor drop" in overall service hours - a natural cycle after the post-lockdown surge. With the launch of our California and expanded Taiwan branches, we anticipated a strong surge and "major lift" in impact and hours as new members join these dynamic service areas, carrying the IYC mission coast-to-coast and across continents.
