2016–2017: Expanding Our Roots in Central New Jersey
The 2016–2017 period was defined by organic growth as IYC expanded its footprint across Central New Jersey. We welcomed a wave of new volunteers, growing our cohort to 30-40 young members ranging in age from 5 to 18, all eager to make a difference in their communities. Many of our talented young volunteers were honored with the prestigious President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) in both years.
By the end of 2017, IYC had firmly established its foundation, demonstrating its readiness to expand into more areas and dramatically increase its positive impact.

Hurrican Harvey Relief
In September 2017, following the catastrophic devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, IYC took the initiative to host a critical relief fundraising event. This highly successful community effort was held at the Duck Farm. The trail hiking event drew many supportive residents from the community. Through this single event, our volunteers proudly raised over $2,000 for the Hurricane Harvey relief.
Senior Center Concerts
During these two years, IYC established a strong tradition of community outreach by initiating regular Senior Center Concerts. Our dedicated volunteers provided joy and companionship through performances and crafts activities at six nearby senior assisted living centers. Our seasonal focus, especially on major holidays and the Chinese New Year, made these concerts truly special for the residents.
